On behalf of the City of Westminster may I first wish you all a very Happy New Year and welcome all of you here today and to enjoy, as I will the greatest New Years Day Parade in the world. Last year we had a fantastic time and each year the show just gets bigger and better. Many of our visitors here today come from the UK and many come from abroad, but everyone is here to see a great spectacle right here in Westminster, the heart of London. We are certainly all going to have some fun.
This is our 26th year and as I said it gets better every year. I have taken part in this show now for many years and every year I have enjoyed it so much that I keep coming back again and thoroughly enjoy joining in with my friends. This year I am able to enjoy sitting back and relaxing in a wonderful coach with some special friends. It really is a great day out for the whole family as there is so much to see and to hear and with so many participants helping to raise funds for local charities across the whole of London it makes it even more special.
May I wish all of those participants taking part in the show, a sincere big thank you for making the journey to come and join us. I can assure you all that the spectators have just as much fun as the participants. See if you can judge the float that wins the first prize. Once again a very happy healthy New Year and have a great day.

It gives me great pleasure to send my best wishes and congratulations to the organisers, sponsors and participants of the New Year’s Day Parade 2012. The annual parade is a fantastic opportunity for the whole of London to celebrate its significant cultural diversity and artistic talent, and brings people from all backgrounds together. I am especially thankful that it also provides a splendid opportunity for charities from across the UK to raise money in an atmosphere of celebration, creativity and fun. I would like to take this opportunity of wishing everyone involved a very happy and peaceful New Year.
